Chuck Close Fingerprint Portraits

As a class we studied Chuck Close’s various methods of painting and evolution of artworks throughout his life. Before this project began students were challenged to draw portraits of their classmates without using contour lines. They had to rely solely on shading to create the person. Therefore, this final Chuck Close project was an excellent way to end the unit of study. Students took photographs of themselves and drew them using a grid method, just like Close. They then used an ink pad and their fingerprints to create the value. It was a successful project for all students!!
